A few weeks ago, I had a long conversation with my BFF. Thank god for WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams and other essential tools for connecting and surviving the pandemic. Amongst many topics we usually discuss, we can never skip the subject of the Covid-19 and its effect on our life.
– Yes, our lives have been turned upside down, our future is uncertain, and we worry about our loved ones. But the most important thing at these challenging times – I say with the wise look in my eyes and the tone of a youtube guru – is not to panic.
Suddenly, my son walks into the room, eyeballing me with the silent cry for help. He starts coughing vigorously, clearly unable to speak or take a breath.
I always pride myself on staying calm under pressure, thinking clearly and escaping everyday disasters with logical solutions. But the sight of my son in an agony of unstoppable cough gives me chills. I need to get him to the hospital and fast!
Dragging him across the corridor, nervously putting his coat on, searching for the car keys, which are never there when you need them the most, I rush to the rescue. He just stands there gesturing something. What? Water. Running to the kitchen, I pour a glass of water with the shaking hands. Phone! Almost forgot. I am rushing to grab it, not realising that my friend is still there, witnessing my disaster, trying to be a supportive silent witness. But all I can think about is that I need to get my son to the hospital. It is definitely Covid making its way into his lungs while we are wasting time searching for those car keys. Where the hell could they be?!
And then the cough stops. I look at my son, just standing in the kitchen in his jacket with the glass of water in his hand.
– Mum, calm down. I just choked on a candy I sneakily took from the ‘secret’ sweet draw. Oops.
I beath out, walk to the sofa still in my jacket and different trainers on my feet. My friend is still there.
– Yep, I agree with you completely. – She says with a cheeky smile. – The most important thing is NOT TO PANIC .
I would love to send you updates about my books, stories, news and offers.
