Who are you when no one is watching? When no one knows you. When you don’t have to pretend. Have you ever wondered who you are? I mean, really. Without professional roles, family status, colleagues’ opinions and social media. If we strip away all our life’s functions, who will be left?

For many years I couldn’t answer this question. I could only identify myself as a mother, an entrepreneur, a wife, a daughter, a friend, a writer, a pet owner… But none of them could pinpoint the real me. It is not easy – try it now.

But the question kept spinning in my head. And not that anything was wrong with having the social roles assigned, but I always felt that there must be someone else in me who needed to be found.

Do you remember the time when we were children? If anyone asked us who we were, what would we say? I am Nemetra. That’s it. It was always enough. And somehow, I knew exactly who Nemetra was. And I always had that feeling of certainty you cannot fake.

I miss that girl who seemed to have all of it figured out. Who was simply Nemetra, without strings attached. That girl was fearless, confident and sure. That girl wanted to change the world and never thought that she couldn’t.

My life took me on a long journey. The goal was simple – to find myself. But it has taken many years to arrive here, trying different masks if they could fit, acting my way into the world I thought I SHOULD be a part of. Such a simple destination – but an endless journey.

Where am I on my journey? Well, all I can tell you that I am definitely on the right path. And I am sure it is just the beginning.

And the best part is that that girl is still in me. I feel her now. All I need to do is to let her out. To stop doubting. To be brave. To have faith.

So, the question still pops up in my head. Who the hell am I? But I don’t try to answer it anymore. I don’t search for a rational explanation, I don’t assign roles to myself. I just feel that I AM.
