Life can be stressful sometimes. Fact! And with all known yoga poses, positive thinking content and all kinds of sedative medicines, we still find ourselves stressed out more often than we need to. And it is not fun. Medical research is currently linking almost every possible disease to the primary guilty suspect – stress!
I personally have to buttle with various stressful situations, disappointments and mood dampening outcomes. However, I found a way of dealing with stress, which works very well for me and my close friends. I hope it can help you too.
First things first, there are two types of stress, so I figured. Number one – the fixable stress type, and number two – the unfixable stress. What is the difference?
Fixable Stress is the type of stress you can do something about. For example, feeling nervous before an important presentation, dreading the feeling of going to work, having a tense relationship with your loved one. All these things have something in common – you can actually do something about it. And these are good news indeed!
Fixable Stress can be further divided into the stress from action type and stress from inaction.
Stress from action, or to be more precise, stress from too much action in your life, could easily be fixed by allowing yourself a break. Examples could include overuse of social media, juggling too many things, having too much work to do. The outcome of the stress from action is burnout. And who wants that? And yes, you guessed it correctly. The solution to this type of stress is to give yourself a break.
Easier said than done, many of you would say. I know. But the truth is that sometimes we just have to do it! We need to take a break – whatever a break is, in your opinion. Any break will do! Whether you have an opportunity to fly to Barcelona, spend one day in your bed watching series one after another or just going for a walk in the park on your lunch break. You will definitely be on the right path.
Stress from inaction sounds ok-ish, but I would dare say it is more dangerous than the stress from action type. Because when we get the daunting feeling about something that has to be done but we are inactive about it, it could drive us crazy! Think of a missed deadline at work, a project that you feel excited about but still haven’t started, that difficult conversation with your father etc. Yep, your pulse is beginning to rise just from thinking of it. The solution is simple – get it done! Now, right now! Dedicate some time, create a plan, pick up that phone and do what you have to do. It couldn’t hurt more than it hurts already.
So, these are all fixable types. You can do it! You totally can.
So, what happens when you are stressed for no apparent reason? Your to-do lists are cleared, you had vacation just last week, and your kids actually listen. But you still feel stressed out and exhausted.
The unfixable type of stress is the persistent dark cloud that doesn’t go away no matter what you do. You just can’t fix it with your actions. This type of stress is the most dangerous one and needs to be addressed by a professional. OMG!
Well, don’t panic yet. Unxifable stress is the rarest form of all. The chances are that you have your reasons to be stressed out. And if you have your reasons, then you have your solutions. Try to understand your stress better and be honest with yourself. No one is listening anyway. Ask the following questions ‘What exactly made me so stressed, and what can I do about it?’ If you have your answer to the first question, you always have a chance to find the answer to the second one.
Hope you find it useful!
